El Yunque Waterfall Elopement | Adventure Wedding Photos in Puerto Rico
One of the best parts of choosing Puerto Rico for your destination wedding or elopement is how diverse the landscapes are—from the colorful charm of Old San Juan to the wild, untamed beauty of El Yunque National Forest. For couples like Gabby and Ryan, who wanted an adventure session in El Yunque to round out their wedding weekend, the rainforest was the perfect place to explore and create something completely different from their city portraits the day before.
They didn’t come to us with a rigid list of locations—instead, they collaborated with us to plan the experience and suggest spots that would fit both their vision and the story of their relationship. And that’s where this magic began.
Starting the Morning at Mount Britton Tower
We met Gabby and Ryan at the gates of El Yunque early in the morning, just as they opened. Driving the winding road to the top, we began our day with a hike up to Mount Britton Tower—one of our favorite spots for panoramic rainforest views.
Gabby carried her wedding dress in a bag, along with a small pop-up changing tent (if you're planning an adventure session like this, we highly recommend!). At the top, the sky was alive—clouds and sun shifting constantly, giving us a glowing contrast between bright rainforest greens and moody shadows.
We photographed them as they took in the views, framed by the ancient stone of the tower and the rolling layers of jungle below. It was the perfect way to start the day: peaceful, cinematic, and connected to the land.
Waterfall Photos at Juan Diego Falls
After hiking back down, we drove to one of the most beloved spots in the forest—Juan Diego Falls. What made this location especially meaningful for Gabby and Ryan is that they had gotten engaged in front of a waterfall in Puerto Rico, so these photos mattered deeply to them.
When we first arrived, the scene was packed with people. For a moment, we found ourselves wondering how we’d be able to create something intimate in such a busy space. But that’s the beauty of adventure photography—you adapt, scout, and find the angle that tells the story.
Gabby changed into her dress again, and we decided to climb down into a lower section of the river, underneath the main waterfall. From that perspective, nearly everyone else disappeared from view, and we were able to create images that feel like it was just them in the heart of the jungle.
By early afternoon, the midday light was bright and harsh—but instead of fighting it, we leaned into it. The sun hitting the water behind Gabby and Ryan gave the entire scene a surreal, glowing quality that felt almost otherworldly.
We guided them onto a rock midstream, framed by waterfall spray and deep shadow, and the results were some of our favorite images from the entire weekend. Sometimes the unplanned moments and light give you the best art—and this was one of those times.
Why We Love Adventure Sessions in El Yunque
Adventure sessions like this are why we love what we do. When couples trust us not just to document their story, but to help plan and guide the experience, that’s where the magic happens. El Yunque is one of the most inspiring places in Puerto Rico for couples who want something wild, emotive, and connected to nature.
If you’re dreaming of an adventure elopement or destination wedding in Puerto Rico, we’d love to help you plan it—and photograph it in a way that feels true to you.
